TikTok has officially been baptized into chaos thanks to a new viral trend sweeping across the platform: returned and current missionaries sharing side-by-side glow-ups and dance moves to the beloved Primary song, “I Hope They Call Me on a Mission.”
The format is simple — and oddly emotional. Users begin with a throwback photo of themselves as a gap-toothed Sunbeam in a sweater vest or church dress, usually during Sharing Time. Then, in an instantly iconic transition, the beat drops and we’re hit with a shot of the same person years later, now suited up or in a name tag, currently serving or freshly returned from the mission field.
But the plot twist? Some aren’t just sharing glow-ups — they’re dancing. Missionaries around the globe have begun filming choreographed routines to “I Hope They Call Me on a Mission,” turning what was once a reverent children’s tune into the unofficial anthem of Latter-day Saint TikTok. And somehow, it slaps.
Some dances are subtle shoulder pops in a chapel parking lot, while others go full K-pop energy on P-day in the mission apartment. There’s even one zone in Chile that reportedly did a coordinated flash mob — respectfully, of course.
One standout post by TikTok user @bostondrak9, captioned “see ya in 3 elders,” has captured hearts across the app, pairing a childhood photo with a powerful glow-up moment as the user departs for missionary service.
Even more impressively, some creators are filming these TikToks while actively heading out to the field. From boarding planes with suitcases and name tags to documenting their first steps in their mission area, they’re continuing the trend mid-deployment — spreading both the message and the moves as they go.
The trend has become a fun, feel-good way for missionaries to share their journeys, reflect on how far they’ve come, and connect with others — all while keeping the vibe light, uplifting, and full of spirit.
TikTok, it seems, has truly been called to serve — and it’s dancing all the way there.
