10 Commandments: Thou Shalt Not Bear False Witness Against Thy Neighbor

The spiritual sense of lying, is to call good evil, or call truth falsity and its converse.

To answer against a neighbor, denotes to speak in such manner against anyone; To say that one is so or such and is not, or that one is not so or such, and is. This begs the question of judging or criticizing on appearance without proper or correct information and so therefore being incorrect. For by neighbor is signified every man, and specifically everyone who is in good or the converse. It also denotes, those that say, what is just is unjust, and the converse. Witness means confirmation of such things.

Examples;
Saying a person is honest, for gain, with words of confirmation, knowing that he is not honest, is self serving, and therefore is a witness of a lie, for self advantage of gain, of profit, power, or reputation.

Saying a person is dishonest, for gain, with words confirming that it is so, knowing that he is honest is self serving , and therefore is a witness of a lie, is also for self advantage of gain, of profit, power, or reputation.

2 Nephi 15:20 Wo unto them that call evil good, and good evil, that put darkness for light, and light for darkness, that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter.

Romans 1:25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
